Outside the Box
The Arts Building Gallery is pleased to present PlacerArts’ inaugural Outside the Box show from April 8 through May 29, 2008.
Outside the Box is a celebration of the imagination benefitting PlacerArts. Professional and amateur artists, including some local “celebrity artists”, were challenged to literally think “Outside the Box” to create a one-of-a-kind piece of art with a 12" square birch box. Children and teens have used cardboard pizza boxes donated by Old Town Pizza for their art.
The diversity of art forms that resulted is nothing short of incredible. Steve Hubbard, a local photographer who shot images of all the boxes for the PlacerArts website, says “the artist’s imagination transforms the boxes. It was exciting to shoot them because each one was an adventure. You had no idea what you were going to see”.
The Outside the Box show kicks off PlacerArts’ 25th anniversary fundraising efforts. “We’re very moved by the contributed work of the artists”, says Angela Tahti, Executive Director, “and looking forward to the fun of the live auction on May 2nd.”
The Outside the Box show will open on Tuesday, April 8, with its opening reception held in conjunction with the first Auburn Art Walk of 2008 on Thursday, April 10 from 6 to 9pm. A silent auction for each piece of art will commence on April 8, culminating with a Live Auction conducted by local auctioneer Dan Macon on Friday, May 2 at 6:00pm at The Arts Building. All proceeds benefit PlacerArts.
