SCG Workshop l with Jane Ingram Allen | From Plant to Paper!
405 Vernon Street, Suite 100, Roseville, CA, United States, California 95678 Map
In this workshop we will make paper from local plant waste materials, starting with gathered plant materials and ending with handmade paper artworks created from local plant sources (leaves and bark gathered without harming the plant). We will learn how to collect, what to collect, and how to prepare leaves, bark and stems of certain plants to make great handmade paper for 2 and 3-dimensional artworks. We will collect, cook, beat and make paper from at least two different plants we gather near the site and use others Jane has prepared that are found in Northern California. Learn about plants and useful fibers and create beautiful site-specific handmade paper artworks in a variety of natural colors and textures. All papermaking will be done with eco-friendly and sustainable techniques and an emphasis on using natural and non-toxic materials. Instructor will provide all expendable materials and the equipment for a $10.00 supply fee from each student and also handouts with sources for supplies and basic instructions.
Beginners and experienced papermakers are welcome and all will learn new techniques because of Jane’s experience and research in different countries and with different fibers.
